Day 2 in the bag!

  • Execute Program exercises. I’m currently working through the Asynchronous Javascript and Everyday Typescript courses.
  • First daily check-in. A sort of stand-up for Recursers. Nice to hear what others are working on, and a good place to find pairs for things. Also a forcing function for setting intentions.
  • Pairing workshop. In half an hour, my pair and I got as far as implementing a board for the game of life. We tried randomly seeding the board, and time ran out before we fixed the bugs in that. We used multiplayer editing in replit to pair. Each having a cursor is a double edged sword. On the one hand, it’s easy to point to specific parts of the code. On the other, I found it hard not to type when navigating. I’ll be interested to explore multiplayer editing some more in future pairing sessions. Maybe there are productive multi-cursor pairing workflows if we eschew the notional roles of driver and navigator.
  • Pairing/mobbing on leetcode in common lisp. I don’t know common lisp, but it was fun to watch another recurser puzzle some of it out, and we thought about the leetcode problem enough that I could later solve it in Python pretty quickly.
  • Worked on this site some. A little architectural reworking, laying the groundwork for generating an RSS feed by setting up SvelteKit endpoints to list posts and daily logs.
  • Hung out with a couple of Recursers on the couches (a space for Recursers to chat, even if they don’t know each other). Talked about generative art, parenthood, and the far past and future.
