Today was day 1 at Recurse Center. I intend to learn generously and write about programming things while I’m here, but this is not that. This is just a little “captain’s log” of my days here to build the writing habit. It’ll be brief.
- Onboarding: meeting the faculty and other Recursers, seeing demonstrations of the social rules in action, hearing more about the self-directives, and being made to feel extremely welcome here.
- Some free time before a tour of RC’s software, which I took to reflect on what I want to do here. That meant making a big list of projects and areas I’m interested in exploring, and trying to tease out what I’m intrinsically motivated to do.
- Execute Program: Asynchronous JavaScript exercises.
- An hour break for dinner and family.
- A tour of RC’s software. Virtual RC is super cool, and it definitely lends something to the experience. I feel like I’m with others even when I’m not on a call.
- My first ever leetcode problems. I managed two without looking at solutions, and one with some peeking (it was correct but too slow). I’m new to this kind of algorithmic puzzling.
- Quick update to this site to add the
/log
route and this post.
- Now bed.
